Lead-Acid Battery Pulse Repair: A Practical Maintenance Technology, Not a "Resurrection Miracle"

Hits: 52 img

With the wide application of lead-acid batteries in electric vehicles, backup power supplies and other fields, the "pulse repair" technology has gradually become a market hotspot. Whether it is a black technology to extend battery life or an IQ tax misleading consumers has aroused widespread concern. Industry experts point out that pulse repair is a targeted auxiliary maintenance method, and its scope of action should be viewed rationally.

The core reason for the capacity attenuation of lead-acid batteries is the problem of lead sulfate crystallization. During normal use of the battery, lead sulfate crystals are in the form of "fine sand" that can be dissolved and recycled. However, long-term undercharging or over-discharging of the battery will turn the crystals into hard "stones", blocking the plate channels and leading to inability to charge and reduced battery life. Pulse repair technology uses high-frequency, short-duration micro-current pulses to impact large crystals, dispersing them into soluble small particles and thus restoring part of the battery performance.
However, this technology is not a panacea. It is only applicable to batteries with slight sulfation and more than 70% capacity retained, and can be used as a preventive maintenance method in scenarios prone to sulfation such as low temperatures in winter. For batteries with severe sulfation, bulging or aging plates, repair is basically ineffective. At present, chargers on the market are mainly divided into three categories: ordinary three-stage chargers are low-cost and stable in performance, but cannot reverse sulfation; regular intelligent pulse repair chargers add a pulse repair function on the basis of multi-stage charging, which can delay the attenuation of slightly aging batteries, but the price is higher; inferior repair chargers use unstable "random wave impact", which is not only ineffective but may also crack the plates and accelerate battery scrapping.
Experts remind consumers to follow three principles for maintaining lead-acid batteries: supplement electricity at least once a month when not in use for a long time to keep the power above 50%; choose regular chargers with reliable quality and matching parameters; when the battery shows obvious bulging and sharp reduction in battery life, timely replacement is the most economical and safe choice. Do not believe the exaggerated propaganda of "one-click repair" and "curing all diseases", and choose repair products from reliable brands.
The value of pulse repair technology lies in prevention and delay, not "resurrecting the dead". Only by rationally using scientific maintenance methods can we truly extend the service life of lead-acid batteries and reduce usage costs.
