The use of organic silicon materials in coatings

Hits: 725 img

Silicone materials refer to the general term for high molecular polymers containing Si-C bonds, and no such substances are found in nature.

One of the most industrially valuable and main features in organosilicon chemistry is the structure and properties of the polysiloxane series. Polysiloxane (silicone resin) composed of silicon-oxygen bond (-Si-O-Si-) is a semi-organic and semi-inorganic polymer compound. They have the characteristics of organic and inorganic polymers. These properties are incomparable to other polymer materials, and have an irreplaceable position in many fields. Their application range has gradually penetrated into various fields of people's daily life from military industry, national defense, and cutting-edge technology.

According to different forms, silicon-containing polymers can be divided into four categories: silicone oil, silicone rubber, silicone resin, and silane coupling agent. Silicone polymers used in coatings are mainly silicone resins and silicone-modified resins. Silicone rubber can be made into room temperature vulcanized or heat-cured coatings. Silicone oil is mainly used as a coating additive. It is one of the most effective defoamers in coatings, especially solvent-based coatings. Polyether-modified silicone oil can also be used as a water-based defoamer with ideal effects; silicone oil can also improve coatings The leveling property can prevent the blooming phenomenon caused by the separation of pigments in the multi-color paint; it can also be used as an additive for hammer paint to increase the hammer effect. Silicone oil can also be made into emulsion form. Silicone oil is used in coatings only under specific conditions. For example, methyl hydrogen-containing silicone oil is polycondensed into a water-resistant and anti-stick coating under the action of a catalyst.

Silane coupling agent is a kind of silane with organic functional groups, which can improve the adhesion of coatings under high humidity, improve the dispersibility of pigments and the crosslinking properties of resins. Silicone oils and silane coupling agents containing reactive functional groups are often used as reactants for copolymerization and grafting reactions with other monomers or resins to achieve the purpose of modifying other resins.

Aqueous silicon-containing polymer refers to a type of silicon-containing polymer that can be stably dispersed in water. The use of water-based silicon-containing polymers in water-based coatings can not only take advantage of the advantages of silicone materials, but also eliminate the reduction in water resistance of the coating film caused by the hydrophilic modification of the resin and the high surface tension of the water-based coating. Ills. Therefore, water-based silicon-containing polymers have become one of the most promising film-forming materials for water-based coating systems.
