In 1986, Nanjing Normal University established the law teaching and Research Office under the former Department of political education to carry out law teaching and research activities. In May 1994, in order to meet the needs of the construction of socialist market economy and democratic legal system in China for high-quality legal professionals, the University adjusted the professional structure and faculty structure in a timely manner. On the basis of the former law teaching and research section of the Department of political education, the law teaching and research group of the moral education teaching and research section and some teachers of the Ministry of Marxism Leninism, the law department of the school of economics and law was established. In March 2001, in order to meet the needs of the development of law discipline, the law department of the school of economics and law was established as a law school independently. In 2006, with the approval of the academic degree committee of the State Council, Nanjing Normal University became one of the 10 law schools authorized by the first level discipline doctor's degree of Chinese law, and the only university in Jiangsu Province authorized by the doctor's degree of law. In 2012, Nanjing Normal University ranked 13th in the discipline evaluation of the Ministry of education. The subject of procedural law has been appraised as the key subject of the 11th five year plan by Jiangsu Provincial People's government.
