In January 2026, the systemic solutions to the odor problem in the application of polyether silicone oil in the cosmetics industry were released. As an important raw material for cosmetics and personal care products, the unpleasant odor of polyether silicone oil stems from the isomerization decomposition and self-oxidation of unreacted monoallyl polyether, and the aldehydes and ketones produced by decomposition are the core sources of peculiar smell.
At present, five types of mature deodorization processes have been formed in the industry. Adding antioxidants such as vitamin E and phytic acid in the addition reaction can inhibit oxidation; heating and vacuum distillation with hydrochloric acid can directly deodorize; the combination of hydrochloric acid and lower alcohols can decompose propenyl polyether and inert platinum catalyst; hydrogenation reaction can eliminate the double bond of allyl polyether, and synthesizing a new structure of branched alkenyl polyether can avoid isomerization from the source. Meanwhile, the industry has also established a dual odor evaluation standard of hydrolysis smelling and carbonyl value quantification. The carbonyl value of refined products can be reduced to below 0.001mmol.g-1, completely solving the odor problem.
