The European Commission has issued new regulations that strictly restrict the use of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) in cosmetics. From June 6, 2026, D4 will not be placed on the market as a single substance, as a component of other substances, or in a mixture with a concentration of 0.1% or more. This restriction is intended to reduce the potential risks of D4 to the environment and humans. It is worth noting that since D4 has been strongly suspected of having endocrine disrupting effects, it has been banned in cosmetics since January 1, 2022. The new EU regulations may have a certain impact on related domestic beauty products, especially those that rely on D4 to provide a specific skin feel.
