The May Day holiday has just ended. In addition to traveling, many families have also completed the seasonal cleaning. When wiping the sink or bathtub, many people will find that the originally smooth surface is slightly yellowed, and even small cracks appear in some parts. Even if the appearance seems intact, the aging of the material has already begun quietly.
Many bathroom equipment and artificial stone countertops contain chopped glass fiber or glass fiber fabric as a reinforcement layer, just like the steel bars in concrete, to improve the overall strength and deformation resistance. These glass fibers are mostly treated with aminosilane to enhance the bonding with the resin. However, highly active amino functional groups often react violently and are easily oxidized. During the curing process, they are prone to yellowing, bubbling and other side reactions, affecting the stability of the structure and the appearance life.
IOTA-2202 (3-ureapropyltrimethoxysilane) provides a more reliable solution. By introducing urea bridges (–NH–CO–NH₂) into the amino structure, it significantly reduces the reaction rate and inhibits side reactions while maintaining excellent interfacial bonding. It can also extend the operation time, reduce pre-crosslinking and foam residue, and is especially suitable for light-colored, dense, and smooth applications. Whether used for surface treatment of glass fiber fabrics or interface reinforcement of chopped glass fibers, a more stable and durable composite material system can be constructed.
