Traditional Dry Process of Silicone Leather Explained, Industry Standard Approval Drives Standardization

Hits: 88 img

December 12, 2025 - Authoritative industry institutions released a detailed analysis of the core technology of the traditional dry process for silicone leather, while the group standard "Liquid Silicone Rubber for Organosilicon Synthetic Leather" was successfully approved for project initiation, laying an important foundation for product quality standardization and technological upgrading in this field.

The traditional dry process for silicone leather is currently the mainstream production method, which can be upgraded and transformed relying on mature synthetic leather production lines. Its core process consists of three stages: first, raw materials such as high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) or addition-cure liquid silicone rubber (LSR) are formulated into slurry, which is coated on release paper and dried to form through a three-stage oven; then, a bonding layer is coated for lamination with base fabric (knitted fabric, woven fabric or non-woven fabric) followed by heating and curing; finally, after cooling and peeling, the finished product is obtained through post-processing such as embossing. The leather produced by this process has the advantages of temperature resistance (-60℃ to above 200℃), aging resistance, non-toxicity and environmental protection, with a soft and smooth feel. In the process implementation, the raw material formula and key process control are particularly crucial. The slurry needs to be mixed with additives such as crosslinking agents, platinum catalysts and fumed silica, and solvents like toluene are used to adjust the viscosity; the coating thickness must be accurately controlled between 0.1-0.3mm, the drying and curing need to go through three temperature gradient treatments (low, medium and high), and the composite product must be cured in a constant temperature room at 40-60℃ for 24-72 hours to ensure the product's peel strength and bonding force. However, the traditional process also faces the industry challenge that its wear and scratch resistance are not as good as top-grade PU leather, which needs continuous improvement through hybrid structure technologies such as LuxSense™. To standardize industry development, the group standard "Liquid Silicone Rubber for Organosilicon Synthetic Leather", organized by Beijing Sino Advanced Chemical Materials Institution and led by Guangdong Dinglishen New Materials Co., Ltd., has been included in the second batch of approved projects in 2025. Currently, 12 organosilicon-related standards including this one are under formulation, covering product specifications, testing methods, safe production and other fields. Relevant enterprises are sincerely invited to participate in the standard formulation by contacting He Li (Tel: 19907121608, Email: heli@acmi.org.cn) or Li Jie (Tel: 18971475939, Email: lijie@acmi.org.cn), to jointly promote the high-quality development of the industry.
