On December 15, 2025, Zhejiang Timing Technology announced the launch of an environmentally friendly solid tertiary amine polyurethane catalyst, successfully addressing the VOC emission and odor issues of traditional liquid catalysts and providing a new solution for the green transformation of the polyurethane (PU) industry. In polyurethane synthesis, catalysts act as key "regulators" that directly affect product performance. Traditional liquid tertiary amine catalysts contain N,N-dimethyl groups, which are prone to oxidation and release formaldehyde, and their volatilization causes odors, becoming major environmental challenges for the industry. Through quantum chemical screening, Timing Technology identified high-efficiency tertiary amine functional groups such as pyrrolidine, and developed a new type of solid-supported catalyst by covalently bonding these groups to a nano-silica framework via chemical synthesis. The catalyst achieves three major breakthroughs: first, zero VOC emissions—tertiary amine groups are firmly anchored without migration or volatilization, completely solving industry-wide problems like new car odors; second, dual functions of catalysis and reinforcement—the silica carrier not only ensures catalytic activity but also refines cell structure and enhances material mechanical strength and heat resistance; third, controllable reaction—the diffusion limitation of heterogeneous catalysis brings delayed foaming effect, suitable for the production of large and complex molds. Compared with traditional products, the new catalyst features shorter alkyl chains and optimized heterocyclic structures, with catalytic activity 16% higher than that of traditional methyl derivatives. Its heterogeneous catalysis mode subverts the traditional homogeneous catalysis system, boasting broad application prospects in fields such as foam plastics and elastomers. Adhering to the concept of "green + efficient + economical," Timing Technology relies on porous material functionalization technology to promote industrial sustainable development. The launch of this catalyst not only complies with stringent environmental regulations but also meets consumers' demand for healthy products, injecting new vitality into the high-quality development of the polyurethane industry.
