Silica Micro-powder vs. Wollastonite Powder: A Duel of Functional Fillers in Coatings

Hits: 132 img

Silica micro-powder and wollastonite powder play pivotal roles in water-based and high-temperature resistant coatings due to their unique properties. Despite similar names, their core attributes differ significantly: silica micro-powder, mainly composed of high-purity silica (≥99%), features irregular or spherical particles, high hardness and low oil absorption, focusing on hardness enhancement and corrosion resistance. Wollastonite powder, a needle-like fibrous material made of calcium silicate, has a smooth texture, excelling in toughening and hiding power improvement.
In water-based coatings, wollastonite powder strengthens film durability through a network cross-linking structure and retards aging by reflecting UV rays. Silica micro-powder extends the penetration path of corrosive substances and optimizes construction leveling. For high-temperature applications, wollastonite powder is suitable below 300℃ to ensure toughness, a combination is needed for 300-600℃, and high-purity spherical silica micro-powder is essential above 800℃ for extreme temperature resistance. With the upgrading of industrial demands, these two functional fillers are accurately adapted to different scenarios, providing core support for the quality and efficiency improvement of the coating industry.
