In January 2026, Invista, a global giant in high-performance materials, announced a major strategic adjustment. It will close the precision processing workshop in Martinsville, Virginia, USA, and the production plant in Gloucester, UK, with the relevant businesses transferred to the plant in Kingston, Canada. This move is expected to affect about 150 jobs. At the same time, Invista is exploring opportunities to expand production capacity at advantageous locations including Anlong Plant in Shanghai, China. This is another important move by Invista since 2025. Previously, it had divested part of its nylon fiber business and closed Maitland Plant in Canada. Up to now, Invista has invested over 14 billion yuan in China's nylon 66 value chain, and promoted the localized production of key intermediates through projects such as Shanghai Jieda via technology authorization. Currently, China's demand for nylon 66 accounts for more than 50% of the global total, but by the end of 2025, domestic production capacity may reach 1.5 million tons while demand is only about 800,000 tons. The industry is standardizing development through initiatives. Invista's adjustment is not only a response to competition but also a layout for a new fulcrum of global growth.
