In February 2026, Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), known as the "King of Plastics", attracted attention again. Accidentally discovered in 1938, this polymer material has become a key material in aerospace, electronic and electrical, chemical anti-corrosion and other fields due to its excellent properties such as strong corrosion resistance, wide temperature range application and low friction coefficient. Its service temperature ranges from -180β to 260β, it can withstand strong corrosive media such as aqua regia, and it is also an ideal material for 5G communication and biomedicine fields.
PTFE preparation requires two core links of monomer synthesis and polymerization, and its molding process breaks through traditional techniques with special methods such as compression molding and isostatic pressing. Modification technology further makes up for its shortcomings such as insufficient mechanical strength. At present, China's PTFE production capacity accounts for 67% of the world's total, but high-end products still rely on imports. Domestic research teams have realized the domestic substitution of graphene-doped PTFE materials, laying a foundation for the high-end and functional development of the industry, and its applications in new energy vehicles, chip thermal management and other fields are also continuously expanding.
