Silica gel is a compound with siloxane bonding as the main bond
Si-O compound bond energy is high (general rubber C-C bond energy: 332kJ/mol), so the chemical properties are very stable, with excellent heat resistance, flame resistance, weather resistance, radiation resistance and electrical insulation properties.
The silicon-oxygen chain has a spiral (coil) structure, and the interaction force between molecules is small (when the temperature changes, the force between the molecules changes little), and it has good cold resistance and resilience. At the same time, the methyl group pointing out of the spiral can rotate freely, so that the silica gel has unique surface properties (weak surface tension), such as water repellency and surface anti-sticking.
