Synthesis method of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane

Hits: 258 img

Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) is an important siloxane compound widely used in cosmetics, personal care products, coatings, sealants and electronic products. In industrial production, the process of synthesizing octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane needs to be optimized to improve production efficiency, reduce costs and ensure product quality.

Synthesis method of D4
At present, the synthesis of D4 mainly adopts cyclization reaction, and siloxane monomers are polymerized to form cyclic tetrasiloxane through silylation reaction.

Common synthesis routes include:
Chlorosilane method (liquid phase method): Silicon tetrachloride (SiCl₄) is reacted with organic chloride (such as methyl chloride) to obtain tetramethylsilane, and then D4 is generated through cyclization reaction.
Silylation reaction method (gas phase method): Methyltrichlorosilane is reacted with hydroxide to generate a siloxane intermediate, and then octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is formed through further cyclization reaction.
