In October 2025, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) conducted the second dynamic adjustment to the "Catalogue of Used Cosmetic Ingredients", officially incorporating laurylalanine and two other new cosmetic ingredients into Category Ⅱ of the Catalogue. This milestone signifies that laurylalanine, which has undergone three years of safety monitoring, has obtained official recognition for its safety and effectiveness, injecting new vitality into the green innovation of China's cosmetics industry.

Laurylalanine is an amino acid surfactant developed by the original research team of Weimei Biomedical. With the chemical formula  C₁₅H₂₉NO₃, it is derived from natural palm kernel oil and corn starch (natural source index close to 1) and optimized through biosynthetic technology. Composed of gentle and skin-friendly alanine and a hydrophobic chain from lauric acid, the ingredient forms a unique supramolecular structure through hydrogen bond-driven self-assembly, with a weight-average molecular weight ranging from 5,000 to 5 million, featuring self-healing and environmental responsiveness.

In terms of core performance, laurylalanine exhibits remarkable advantages. As the main surfactant in personal care products, its foaming effect is comparable to traditional AES, with denser foam and improved system stability. It also boasts excellent flocculation performance, reducing greasiness during rinsing and ensuring low skin irritation. Additionally, it saves over 50% water, is easy to rinse, and is environmentally friendly.

Currently, this ingredient is widely used in various cosmetics such as facial cleansers, body washes, shampoos, and oral care products, especially suitable for baby cleaning products. According to national regulations, the maximum usage level is 20% in rinse-off cosmetics and 1% in leave-on cosmetics. Its inclusion in the catalog not only confirms the technological breakthrough of the amino acid surfactant system but also reflects the continuous improvement of China's cosmetic raw material supervision system.

As biotechnology and sustainable ingredients become the core directions of industry development, the approval of laurylalanine will promote the R&D and application of more green and safe raw materials, driving the cosmetics industry towards environmental protection, high efficiency, and mildness.
