Recently, the "Low-Viscosity Methyl Silicone Oil" group standard, organized by Beijing Sino Advanced Chemical Materials Institution and led by Huangshan Qiangli Chemical Co., Ltd., successfully passed the approval review for the second batch of 2025 projects, with the standard under the jurisdiction of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China. This standard will clarify the core content such as product structure, model specifications, and technical requirements of low-viscosity methyl silicone oil, providing important technical support for the high-quality development of the industry.
Low-viscosity methyl silicone oil (scientific name: Polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) refers to organosilicon compounds with a viscosity below 50 centistokes (cSt), with common models ranging from 1 cSt to 50 cSt. It integrates multiple properties including ultra-low viscosity, excellent lubricity, temperature resistance from -50β to 200β, and chemical inertness, finding wide applications in cosmetics, defoaming, lubrication, electronics and other fields. It serves as a silky emollient in skin care products, a gloss enhancer in shampoos, an efficient defoamer in chemical production and food processing, as well as a lubricant for precision instruments and a thermal conductive insulation material for electronic devices.
The formulation of this standard aims to regulate product quality and enhance the overall competitiveness of the industry. Currently, the organizers are inviting relevant enterprises and institutions to participate in the compilation to ensure the standard is scientific, reasonable and operable. It is reported that in addition to low-viscosity methyl silicone oil, 11 other organosilicon-related standards are also in progress, including thermal conductive silicone gel for electronic devices and liquid silicone rubber for organosilicon synthetic leather. Covering product specifications, testing methods, safety production and other dimensions, these standards will further improve the standardization system of China's organosilicon industry.
